Free Love Letters - Scentances

annie.jpg Wednesday, 26 September 07 - 07:32 PM (GMT +10:00)
By Annie Reynolds in Ideas For Love letters

Even though you may be using one of our free love letters you can still personalize the letter itself in many ways.Today we take a brief look at what you can do to make the love letter more appealing to the nose.

Smell is the strangest evoker of memories and emotions in humans. Why? Well for the first months of our lives we needed smell to identify our mothers. Attaching a smell to the most basic of our needs; food, comfort and love is hard wired into us.

If you wear a scent already then the choice is pretty easy when it comes to adding something to your love letter. Our noses are sensitive to pick up the ghost of your perfume so do not drown the letter, a dab or two is sufficient.

If you do not wear a scent then you need to choose one that you know that your loved one will appreciate. If they have already told you that they love the smell of vanilla for example, then linking your love to that smell will be as simple as one or two drops on the paper of each letter.

If you have no clue what they like then either you can ask them casually, or you can use something subtle and start wearing it yourself as well. Soon enough you, the scent, and your love will be linked.

Free Love Letters - How Long Is Too Long?

annie.jpg Monday, 24 September 07 - 05:31 PM (GMT +10:00)
By Annie Reynolds in Learn To Write Love Letters

While you are free handing your love letters you may be tempted to think that quantity means more than quality. That is not true with anything to do with love. A good diamond is better than a flawed big diamond, a long unpleasant kiss is not better than a short heartfelt one. Same goes for love letters.

Do not be fooled into thinking five pages of ramble will be better than 5 paragraphs that say exactly how you think.

Remember that in writing a love letter you are telling your loved one about the sensual (as in the 5 senses) feelings they arouse in you. This needs only a mention rather than an essay on each. Like a good book, much is left to the imagination of the reader to link your words to what they feel.

Yes that sounds all very clinical but it is how our human minds and emotions work, we link what we know to what we are reading. We then use our imagination to feel the rest. So if you are explaining right down to the sub atomic particle how you feel for your partner you have probably gone way too far!

Free Love Letters - Set The Scene

annie.jpg Sunday, 23 September 07 - 06:32 PM (GMT +10:00)
By Annie Reynolds in Love Letters General

When you have signed up for my free love letters you might be thinking about how you can set the scene for receiving them. After all walking up cold and giving the love letter may work, but there are more romantic ways of doing things!

Think about all the places a love letter might be hidden. In one of my newsletters I talk about a particular way of getting you love letter into your loved one's work place, but here are a few other ways you can surprise them in the house

  • snuggled in the good old sock drawer hidden in there until their happy discovery
  • under the sun visor in the car (make sure it is secured there or it could cause an accident dropping down when they don't expect it when driving
  • the good old posted in the mail
  • hidden in the back pages of a book they are reading
  • between towels in their bathroom

The things that you will to consider are
  • do they frequent this spot often enough to be found in a reasonable amount of time
  • does the spot spell romance? Kind of rules out places like in shoes...but not entirely depending on your relationship.
  • Will the letter stay intact

Where ever you put it don't be hanging about there all day. Yes you may miss the initial reading by your loved one,  but that is not the only reason you have given them a love letter is it?

Good luck hiding your love letter!

Free Love Letters - Real Men Send Love Letters

annie.jpg Tuesday, 11 September 07 - 07:04 PM (GMT +10:00)
By Annie Reynolds in Learn To Write Love Letters

Here at Free Love Letters we have been asked why it is that some men have no issue sending love letters and some do.

Far be it from me to claim to be a love therapist (those people have a degree in psychology!) but I do think I know just a little about men, and how they dislike appearing vulnerable.

Writing love letters or poetry has, over the centuries, been admired as an art to be mastered by both men and women. Romantic literature though, was not always what it seemed. Court language (from where "courting" originated) was more politics by expressing admiration in as flowery terms as possible, rather than any expression of "true love".

Shakespeare's famous sonnet 130 is often seen as the anti-love sonnet as it does paint his mistress as some beauteous creature, but as a natural woman.

Sonnet 130

by William Shakespeare

My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun;
Coral is far more red than her lips' red;
If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun;
If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head.
I have seen roses damask'd, red and white,
But no such roses see I in her cheeks;
And in some perfumes is there more delight
Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks.
I love to hear her speak, yet well I know
That music hath a far more pleasing sound;
I grant I never saw a goddess go;
My mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground:
And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare
As any she belied with false compare.

Onwards through history men have not been averse to penning their love. In war especially, men have put pen to paper to express how they felt about the pain of separation from the one they loved.

But somewhere along the line being romantic became a threat to a man's masculinity.

Feminism may have had a hand in the demise of the love letter. Or maybe television and typewriters. But whatever it was there has been a decline in the social acceptability for a male to the object of his affection. Which is a shame.

Some points to ponder if you are a male and you feel weird about writing a love letter.
  • studies have shown that women bond quicker with a man that appears slightly vulnerable
  • investing yourself in a letter is recognized and appreciated by women (note I do not say girls)
Good luck!

By Annie Reynolds in Love Letters General

Found this site while browsing web2.0 sites...a different way to send your free love letters.

The blurb on the site says

WHAT IS FUZZMAIL? Fuzzmail records the act of writing and lets you send it as an email. Dynamic changes, typoes, pauses and writeovers are captured and communicated. We created fuzzmail because we wanted a more emotionally expressive alternative to email, so that an emailed love letter does not have to look the same as a business letter.

HOW DO I USE IT? Fuzzmail is free! Just start typing a message and fuzzmail will record what you type. When you're done, click "send" to stop recording and send your message. The recipient will get a private web link to read the message replayed in the way that you typed it. A copy of the Fuzzmail you wrote will be sent to you at your email address.
